Give to Math

The mission of Department of Mathematics is research, teaching, and service to the discipline, institution, and public. In addition to having an internationally known research program, we offer a comprehensive undergraduate program, a nationally recognized undergraduate honors program, and graduate programs leading to masters and doctoral degrees. We pride ourselves on our teaching, research, and outreach. We invite you to be involved in the success of our faculty and students. The Department of Mathematics relies on the critical support of donors to provide graduate fellowships, undergraduate scholarships and general enrichment to support initiatives of the department.

Enrichment Funds

Math Department Enrichment Fund

Discretionary fund to support initiatives of the mathematics department, including research travel by students and faculty, equipment, visitors to the department, and departmentally sponsored events such as Math Club activities, conferences, and outreach.

John H Barrett Lectures Memorial Fund

Established in 2017 by former Department Head John (Spud) Bradley and his wife Beverly to support the Barrett Memorial Lectures, which in nearly 50 years has become one of the most prestigious and long-running math conferences in the southeastern USA.

Math Department Board of Visitors Initiatives

Provides funds for initiatives spearheaded by the Mathematics Department Board of Visitors. Board of Visitor annual gifts may be paid to this fund.

Graduate Fellowship Funds

Randall Cline Memorial Graduate Fellowship

Supports outstanding undergraduate math majors.

F M Dryzer Memorial Graduate Fellowship

Supports outstanding graduate students.

Dorothea & Edgar Eaves Graduate Fellowship

Supports outstanding undergraduate math majors.

Yueh-er, Hong-Hsu, Cheng Kuo Graduate Fellowship

Established in 2003 by Dr. Yueh-er Kuo to promote Masters’ degree education in the Department of Mathematics.

W Harold Row Jr Memorial Graduate Scholarship

Named for former Math Department faculty member  W. Harold (Harry) Row, Jr.

Spike Tickle STEM Graduate Fellowship

Established in 2008 by John D. “Spike” Tickle to recognize students who have an outstanding academic performance and desire to use their talents and education in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). The award is given to a graduate student in the College of Arts and Sciences to focus on teaching and/or research efforts in mathematics.

Undergraduate Scholarship Funds

April Marie Morton Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2021 in memory of April Marie Morton. The scholarship supports students who are studying applied mathematics and have demonstrated financial need.

Polly Anna Harris Math Teacher Intern Scholarship

This scholarship helps support a future mathematics teacher who plans to intern the following academic year.

Allen Medal Undergraduate Award

Established in 1890 and has since been presented annually. The Allen Medal is given to recognize freshman students who demonstrate, upon testing, the best knowledge of Algebra, Plane Geometry, Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, Single Variable Calculus, and/or any other areas of mathematics.

John H. Barrett Senior Undergraduate Award

Established in 1970 by friends and colleagues of John H. Barrett, recognizes outstanding senior mathematics students.

J A Cooley Undergraduate Scholarship

Established to help qualified and deserving mathematics students secure a college education, honoring junior and senior mathematics students who have an interest in teaching.

Dr. Warren & Kyleen Franz Undergraduate Scholarship

Established in 2015 to support mathematics majors who demonstrate successful academic performance.

Lucille & Herbert Lee Undergraduate Scholarship

Established in 1986 by an endowment from the Lee estate, honors sophomore and upperclassmen mathematics majors with outstanding records of academic achievement.

J P & Gladys Maples Undergraduate Scholarship

 J.P. and Gladys Maples set up their scholarship endowment fund to encourage scholastic excellence in junior or senior students.

Faculty/Staff Math Honors Undergraduate Scholarship

Established in 2014, this fund accepts gifts from or in honor of Mathematics Department Faculty and Staff. The fund will provide scholarships to Math Honors students as soon as the endowment reaches \$25,000.

Cooper D Schmidt Undergraduate Scholarship

Established in 1987 by the Schmitt family, provide funds to outstanding undergraduates in the Mathematics

Simms Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship

The Simms Foundation Scholarship is a 4-year merit scholarship awarded to an incoming freshman with an excellent high school record who will major in math and has an interest in teaching.

Dr Glen R & Elistel Young Undergraduate Scholarship

Established in 2010. Its purpose is to support Mathematics or Physics majors who demonstrate successful academic performance. Preference is given to juniors.
