Course Description and General Course Information
Course Description: Review of algebraic, logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric functions for students who satisfy the course prerequisites for 141 or 151, but whose ACT test scores indicate additional preparation is necessary. Students who have earned a grade of C or better in 141 or 151 may not subsequently receive credit for 130. Math 130 does not satisfy the Quantitative Reasoning requirement. 4 credit hours. A, B, C, NC grading.
Text: Precalculus: Mathematics for Calculus, Seven Edition, Stewart/Redlin/Watson.
This course requires enhanced WebAssign (EWA) for online homework which comes with an ebook version of our textbook. The semester begins with a 14-day free trial of WebAssign, so everyone will have access to both the online homework and the ebook at the beginning of the semester. You have the option to also purchase a printed text if you do not want to use just the ebook that comes with your EWA access.
Textbook Companion website: Online tutorial web quizzes utilize examples from the text.
Calculator: A graphing calculator is no longer required for this course. Use of cell phones and calculators with advanced Alpha Numeric capabilities, such as the TI-89, are forbidden in this course.
Free help for Math 130 students: Students may visit the Math Tutorial Center or participate in Supplemental Instruction for assistance with Math 130.
