Text Book: Calculus (second edition), by Jon Rogawski.
Course Description:
This course is a continuation of Calculus II (Math 142). The main topics
of this
class include solid analytic geometry, partial differentiation,
multiple integration, and selected topics in vector calculus.
The prerequisites is Math 142 or Math148.
Class: MTF 11:15 a.m.--- 12:05 p.m.; R 11:10 a.m. --- 12:00 p.m. (Ayres 110)
Grading: Final Exam 30%; Midterms 30%, 10% for each; Quizzes 20%; Homework 20%.
Letters will be assigned as follows (subject to change): A:90-100, B:80-89, C:65-79, D:50-64, E:49 or below.
Test Schedule:
All exams will take place in Ayres 110.
Homework:
Homework is assigned in Syllabus for each lecture.
The homework will be collected
in each Monday section with a few exceptions (the first collection is
on Friday, January 18)
if there is no test in the previous
week. Late work is not acceptable.
Each collection covers all assignments of the previous
week but only part of them will be graded. One assigned
homework with the lowest score will be dropped.
Most of the assigned problems are odd numbered,
for which you can find the answer in the book. Homework
assignments provide practice, help
fix ideas introduced in class or in text, and constitute
a partial guide as to what to expect on Quizzes and Tests.
Quizzes:
We will have a 10-15 minute quiz at the end of each Friday section
(started from the second Friday)
except the breaks and the weeks of tests. Each quiz will
contain material presented from last Friday
to the Thursday before the quiz. One quiz with the lowest
score will be dropped. No make-up for quizzes.
Tests:
Three 50 minute midterm tests will take place
scheduled as above. No make up for the tests.
Final:
The final examination will take place scheduled as above.
This will be a comprehensive examination covering the entire semester.
Failure to take the final examination without permit
results in an automatic grade of
F in the course.
