Mathematics for the Life Sciences
Grading:
Your grade will be based on several components:
(a) (20% of the grade) There will be a set of 10 minute quizzes,
generally given on Wednesdays at the end of a class period. Two quizzes
with the lowest score will be dropped. No make up quizzes will be given.
(b) (20% of the grade) There will be three assignments (projects) based on the use of computer to analyze particular sets of data, or problems. All deadlines are at 5 p.m. on the due date and are soft - you loose 20% of grade for each day late.
(c) (30% of the grade) There will be three exams during the term.
The exams will not be computer based. In unusual circumstances, arrangements
may be made to take an exam early. If the grade on the final exam
is higher than the lowest grade on the exams (this includes the situation
when you miss one exam), then the grade on the final will raplace the lowest
grade on the exams.
The tentative dates for the exams are:
Exam 1 - Friday, Feb. 16th.
Exam 2 - Friday, March 9nd,
Exam 3 - Friday, April 6th.
(d) (30% of the final grade) The final exam will be cumulative and will be given on Friday May 4th at 12:30-2:30 p.m.
The grades will be assigned on the following basis:
91%-100% A, 85%-90% B+, 76%-84% B, 70%-75%C+, 60%-69%C, 55%-59%D, 54%
and below - F.
