Text: A course in Functional Analysis, 2nd edition, John B. Conway, Springer Verlag.

Course content: We will cover material from the textbook, ~ Chapters I-IX. I will supplement with material from other books. There are many good books on Functional Analysis, e.g. the ones authored by B. MacCluer, W. Rudin, P. Lax and many others. The following books are more encyclopedic:  Linear Operators I, II, III by Dunford & Schwartz, Functional Analysis by Yoshida, Introduction to Operator Theory I by Brown & Pearcy.

Class, test, and grading policies:

1. Attendance is mandatory.
2. Read the text along with what we are doing in class.
3. There will be weekly homework assignments.
