History of Ska
![]() |
Welcome to my music page. First all ya
are probably wondering: what does the music playing,
Higher Ground, has to do with SKA?!?! Beats me, I just
think it sounds kewl:) Secondly you are probably asking
who the character besides the text is. He is a Rude Boy, his style of dress
orginated in Jamaica in the mid 60's. Groups of these
Rude Boys used to go round terrorizing and looting the
Shanty Town's they lived in. This was when the form of
music known as Ska orginated. These first 15 years were
known as the first wave of ska. It occurred primarily in
Jamaica and included such bands as : The Maytals, Desmond
Dekker, and The Pioneers. The next generation of ska took place from about '79 to the middle 80's. What brough it about was a revival of ska music in England by a British band called The Specials. They combined pure Jamaican Ska with the energy of the punk rock of the time, this style is known as two tone. Many other bands were to follow, like The Selector, Bad Manners, The Beat, Madness, and the Bodysnatchers. The third and last, so far, wave of ska started around '85 and has been going on ever since. What makes this era unique is that it blended two tone sound with modern day Alternative Music and Punk Rock. It is characterized by such bands as: Operation Ivy, Sublime, No Doubt, Rancid, and Reel Big Fish. |

What would a music page be with out a custom sound files section? Here are some of favorite sound files that I've downloaded off the internet or created.
