Text: Elementary Linear Algebra, by Howard Anton (tenth edition) We will cover at least chapters one to five as well as selected topics in chapters 6 and 7 as time permits.
Tests: There will be three hour tests, plus a comprehensive final exam.
Homework: There will be about fifteen homework assignments to be handed in throughout the term. These will always be due on the second class day after they are handed out. It is important to keep up with the assignments. The best way to learn math is to struggle with lots of problems. These assignments will be posted on the web site.
Grades: The homework will count 20%, the three tests 60% and the final 20% of the grade. Grades will be computed on a scale no more stringent than
Calculator: These can be very handy with matrix calculations. Generally they will be allowed on homework and possibly on tests, but it is important to understand the underlying ideas.
