BIO:
My given name is Hagop (Armenian
for Jacob - ergo Jack). I was born in Beirut, Lebanon
on November 25, 1969. My family fled Lebanon
a year or two after the civil war began in 1974. They tell me Lebanon
was a beautiful country before all of this fighting. I don't
remember much about it except for our house in the mountains and
sleeping behind a couch to avoid being hit by shards of glass in case
our window, which faced the harbour, shattered due to vibrations from
exploding bombs. Well, there are some other things I remember,
but you can ask me if you are interested. We eventually settled
in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (my
home town - GO LEAFS!)
via London, England and Montreal, Quebec.
Toronto
is where most of my family now lives. I got my undergraduate
degree form the University of Toronto,
in Math and Actuarial Science. I have been in Knoxville since 1994. I
received my Master's degree from the University
of Tennessee in 1997, in Mathematics (surprise!)
I enjoy trail running. I
have completed 28 ultramarathons. Click here
to see a photo from a race last summer. My next ultra will be
???.
My favorite sport to follow is Ultrarunning.
I also enjoy watching tv, movies and reading. My favorite book is
the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
My favorite movie is Troy.
Favorite tv show is Lost.
