My Body Description

size to 1 foot. Color brassy yellow dorsally and pale below with intense black lateral stripes. The lower stripes are usually interrupted andoffset. The eyes may be yellow.

My Habitat

An inhabitant of large sluggish rivers, overflow waters and lakes. Itis a schooling fish living in open water and seems to avoid lotic( flowing) habitats, prefers clear waters with vegetation.

My Feeding Habits

Feed on microcrustaceans and midge larva(Chironomus) and also on fish such as gizzard shad and silverside. In some populations adults continue feeding heavily on aquantic insects(Polypedilum).
