Practice, Practice, Practice

Our team has several opportunities for practice:  age-group practice sessions, weekday practice, evening stroke practice, private lessons with coaches and off-season swimming.   Our ultimate goal is for swimmers to be able to achieve their personal best.  Regular attendance at weekday practice is strongly encouraged in order to build skills and endurance – and to enjoy the feeling of working as a team.  Swimmers are encouraged to combine regular practice with stroke practice for optimum development.

First Week Practice

The season will begin with evening swim clinics at the University Club (UC) for 8 & under swimmers and weekday practices for ages 9 & older.  During this week, swimmers will have the opportunity to meet the coaches with the rest of their age group.  The coaches will have the opportunity to evaluate the swimmers’ strokes.  The 8 & under swimmers will join the older kids for weekday practice during the second week of practice.

Daily Swim Practice

Weekday swim practice is held each weekday morning through the end of swim season at the UT Student Aquatic Center (SAC).  Swimmers age 11 years and older practice from 8:00 - 9:30 AM and swimmers age 10 and younger practice from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.  We are fortunate to practice at the Student Aquatic Center.  We show our appreciation by following some simple rules. Swimmers should arrive for practice dressed to swim.  Swimmers may use the rest room facilities in the locker rooms at the SAC.  Swimmers, parents, and siblings are asked to stay out of the lobby area except in inclement weather.  We have practice unless lightening threatens the safety of our swimmers.

Evening Stroke Practice

Stroke practice takes place at the University Club pool.  It will be held each Tuesday and Thursday evening (7 pm for 10 & under, 7:45 pm for 11 & older) throughout the swim season except on meet nights or team parties. Stroke practice is a time when swimmers can receive some specialized technical stroke work.  This training is distinct from the training in the morning and enhances specific skills.  A dinner menu and drinks will be available during evening stroke practice on Thursday nights this year.  Please make a reservation with the one-deck parent so the kitchen will be prepared.

Swim Lessons

Swimmers may want to consider private lessons with one of our coaches to further enhance skills.  Each coach has a private lesson schedule book available on deck.  Half hour private lessons are $15; small group lessons may also be arranged.  Private lessons and small group lessons are scheduled and paid for directly with the coaches.

Off-Season Swimming

UCST will often offer Spring Training taught by our coaches at the UT Aquatic Center for all ages.  Contact us at ucswimteam@yahoo.com for information.
