Research in the
Department of Mathematics
Mathematical research is an ongoing enterprise of deep vitality. The University of Tennessee has faculty in several different areas of mathematics who are heavily engaged in research and have worldwide recognition for their accomplishments. Our Barrett Lectures, an international conference that has been given since 1970, has achieved a reputation as a significant event in the world of mathematical research. We are also heavily committed to getting undergraduate students involved in research and have had an NSF-sponsored Research for Undergraduates program since 1987.
