Computational and Applied Math Position || Post-Doctoral Positions (3) || General Information

 


The department of Mathematics at the University of Tennessee seeks to fill a tenure track position in Computational and Applied Mathematics. Preference will be given to candidates who will enhance existing strengths of the group, including numerical PDEs (analysis, adaptive methods, and fast solvers) and modelling and computation applied to problems from fluid dynamics, material science, biology, and other fields of science. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required. Outstanding research promise and dedication to excellent teaching are paramount. Some postdoctoral experience is desirable though not required. Employment begins August 1, 2013.

The Mathematics Department at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks to fill three postdoctoral positions in the areas of computational and applied mathematics, geometry/topology, and probability. A PhD or equivalent degree in mathematical sciences earned between January 1, 2009 and August 31, 2013 is required. Primary consideration will be given to candidates whose interests overlap with those of existing faculty. The position is a nine-month academic year appointment for three years, beginning August 1, 2013. Salary is competitive.

Evidence of potential for excellence in research and high quality teaching is required. The University of Tennessee at Knoxville is the flagship university in the Tennessee state higher education system. In recent years, the Department of Mathematics has increased its research prominence both within the University and in the larger mathematical community, and two new postdoctoral positions were added this year in recognition of our heightened visibility. Knoxville is a medium-sized city nestled in the Tennessee Valley, which is bordered on one side by the Great Smoky Mountains and on the other by the geologically rich Cumberland Plateau. The city has a relatively low cost of living, and there is no state income tax on earned income.
