ROOM: Ayres Hall 320
SPEAKER: Professor Mike Frazier
TITLE: Classical Background for Wavelets: Haar Functions and Littlewood-Paley
Theory
ABSTRACT: This is the first of several lectures introducing wavelet theory
from the harmonic analysis perspective. We start by describing the first and
easiest example of wavelets, the Haar functions. We then show that the Haar
expansion is analogous to the Calderon formula expansion associated with Littlewood-Paley-Stein
theory.
