Analysis Seminar
TIME:  3:35 – 4:30 p.m.
ROOM:  Ayres 309B

SPEAKER:  Professor Carl Sundberg
TITLE:  “Rank-One Perturbations of Self-Adjoint Operators”
ABSTRACT:  Let A be a self-adjoint opertaor with simple spectrum and normalized cyclic vector v. We consider the family of rank-one perturbations of A given by A_\lambda x= Ax + \lambda <x,v>v,     \lambda \in  \R. Such families have been much studied by Mathematical Physicists, as the properties of the spectral measures of the A_\lambda's can have physical consequences.

We will review some of the basic ideas concerning these families and construct an example which provides a kind of converse to a theorem of del Rio-Simon and Gordon.

Topology Seminar
TIME: 3:30-4:25 p.m.
ROOM: Ayres Hall 209A

Speaker: Professor Jim Conant
Title: Graph Independence Complexes
