SPEAKER: Dr. Gunter Semmler, Munich University of Technology
TITLE: Boundary interpolation problems for finite Blaschke products
ABSTRACT: We study the following variant of the classical Nevanlinna-Pick
problem: Let t1 ... t_n and w1 ... wn be given points on the unit circle.
We search for finite Blaschke products that fulfill the interpolation conditions
B(tk) = wk for k = 1 ... n. This question has recently been studied by a number
of authors. In contrast to the classical interpolation problem, this problem
is always solvable so that we can single out the solution of least degree
m satisfying the interpolation conditions. The talk surveys different approaches
to study uniqueness, stability, and computation of this minimal solution.
In particular, a classification of all interpolation problems as 'fragile',
'elastic', or 'damaged' will be explained, and the different properties of
these classes will be exhibited. (Joint work with E. Wegert)
