TITLE: Groups and Planar Algebras
ABSTRACT: Inclusions of finite von Neumann algebras have a powerful invariant, called the standard invariant. We present Vaughan Jones's pictorial description of the standard invariant, which he called 'planar algebra'. We show how every finitely generated group corresponds to a planar algebra, and describe explicitly this algebra.
