PROBABILITY SEMINAR
TIME: 3:35 - 4:25 p.m.
ROOM: Ayres 112
SPEAKER: Prof. Krzysztof Bogdan, Wroclaw University of Technology, Polish Academy of Sciences and Stanford University
TITLE: On perturbations of transitions densities and other integral kernels
ABSTRACT: Perturbation series is an explicit method to construct new semigroups. In terms of the generators, it corresponds to addition of terms of smaller order. In terms of stochastic processes, it corresponds to series expansion in Feynman-Kac formulae.

Starting from an example for the Brownian motion we will present certain assumptions under which the perturbation series converge and is comparable to the original transition probability. The research started with an observation of a 3G Theorem for the transition density of the isotropic stable Levy process, and we will explain why 3G is helpful in verifying the said assumptions. Part of the results hold for integral kernels more general than transition probabilities. For instance we can estimate fundamental solutions of fractional PDEs with added Schroedinger perturbations.

ANALYSIS SEMINAR
TIME: 3:35 - 4:30 p.m.
ROOM: Ayres 112
SPEAKER: Mr. Joseph White
TITLE: Cyclic p-roots of prime length
ABSTRACT: We present a result of U. Haagerup, proved independently by T. Tao, stating that for every p prime there exist only finitely many cyclic p-roots.  This is equivalent to saying that there are finitely many non-equivalent cyclic Hadamard matrices of prime dimension.
