- All the labs you have turned in so far will be made into double labs,
meaning that the points you received will be doubled if the lab was
originally a single lab. All the remaining labs will be double labs,
and rather than dropping the lowest grades I will add the total number
of lab points onto your final grade 600. This should give you enough
points that you can skip any labs you find too difficult without it
adverseley affecting your grade.
- The sample code from the lectures is now available online.
- Note that if you want to work on the Fortran labs from home, you
must log on to agnesi via goliath in order to access ifort. This also
applies to using maple/matlab from home.
- Please send me an email with your schedule of classes. Hopefully,
this will allow me to set my office hours at a time convenient for
everyone.
- If you want to work on the labs from home,
you will need an ssh2 client. I recommend using PuTTY
or the non-commercial
client from SSH.com. For security reasons, most departmental machines
are firewalled to prevent logins from outside the department. If you are
logging in from outside, you will need to connect to goliath.math.utk.edu.
From there you can login to any other UNIX machine in the department.
- If you haven't done so already, please read the syllabus.

The primary objective of this course is to provide you with the
ability to take an English description of an arbitrary mathematical
problem, devise an algorithmic solution to that problem, and implement
your algorithm in a high-level programming language (Fortran 95).
Additionally, by the end of the course you should be comfortable
with reading, understanding, and correcting errors in Fortran code.
You may also want to view the most recent revision of the syllabus for more information.
